The shortest verse in the English Bible consists of just two words: "Jesus wept." This verse is found in John 11:35.
Significance: This brief yet powerful verse occurs in the context of Jesus arriving at the tomb of his friend Lazarus, who had died four days earlier. It demonstrates Jesus' human emotion and compassion, showing that he was deeply moved by the grief of Lazarus' sisters and the mourners present.
Tidbit: While this verse is indeed the shortest in many English translations, it's worth noting that in the original Greek, there are other verses that are shorter in character count. For example, 1 Thessalonians 5:16 ("Rejoice always") is shorter in Greek.
