Jesus Feeds The Multitudes

ree

Q: How many people did Jesus feed with five loaves and two fish?

A: 5,000 men (plus women and children)…*Many Bible scholars believe the actual number fed that day could have been 15,000—20,000 people.

Tidbit: The story of Jesus feeding 5,000 people is told in the Bible in Matthew 14:13–21, Mark 6:31–44, Luke 9:12–17, and John 6:1–14. It is the only miracle, aside from the resurrection, that is recorded in all four gospels.

Summary: In the story, a young boy gives Jesus five barley loaves and two fish, and Jesus asks everyone to sit down. Jesus then thanks God for the food, breaks the loaves, and gives them to the people. As Jesus continues to give out the food, it miraculously multiplies to feed the entire crowd. After everyone has eaten, Jesus tells his disciples to gather the leftovers, and they fill twelve baskets.

Significance: The story is considered significant because

1) It involved more people than any other miracle

2) It also marked the only time an Israelite crowd tried to crown Jesus as king

3) Along with the resurrection, it is the only miracle recorded in all four gospels
